Puligny-Montrachet Gilles Bouton 1er Cru “Sous les Puit”
€59.99
Pale primrose in colour, there’s a little toast from the wood. The wine has significant tension and energy, lemon notes, and good length in its linear rather than rounded style
More information :
Gilles Bouton took over the 4 heactare family vineyards in 1977 and has expanded it to a further 8. The vineyards are spread over four villages (Saint Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault) all stars in making white burgundy. The vineyards are loacted in 70 different plots which is typical of the fragmented holdings in the Burgundy region. He was joined in 2008 by his son Julien and they sell most of their wines to private individuals, we are lucky enough to get a limited consignment of his wines once a year.
Home to some of the world’s most extraordinary Chardonnays including the famous Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet and Batard-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet is the 216 hectare middleman of the white wine villages, bordered by Meursault to the north and by Chassagne-Montrachet to the south. The vineyard area of “La Garenne” benefits from an ideal south westerly exposure lying on marl and limestone soils. In ancient French “La Garenne” means a wood surrounded by walls reserved for the local lord for the hunting of rabbit.
